    General Format of the Classes:

  • Classes are 50 mins long.

  • Classes are interactive, with teaching of new material & discussion during class. Classes are run on Zoom. Students require just laptop/device with camera with access to Zoom.

  • Each week, I work on new material in classes, with a focus on quality flute repertoire. 

  • I teach tunes by ear during the live class on Zoom, with particular focus on tone, breathing, ornamentation & finger work.

  • A video replay of the lesson will be provided following each lesson for you to recap, allowing you to catch up also if you miss any live lessons. The replay will be available for 6 months

  • The recording allows all players to work at their own pace following the live workshop and means if a player misses the live teaching of the tune, they can learn the new material covered at their own pace.

  • What’s taught at intermediate level? Generally one tune per class is covered, lots of focus on finger work, ornamentation, tone. Tune is taught by ear & detailed video is sent after class, with document with notes.

  • What’s taught at advanced level? Generally 2 tunes taught, much faster paced lesson, with advanced & proficient players, who have a capacity to learn two tunes per lesson. Several adults & teenagers usually participate in this class.

  • What’s taught in the keys segment? focus on a tune using keys on the flute, F natural, C natural, B flat, G sharp keys, focus on the sequences in tunes, working on flow using keys.

  • What if I miss a class? A video & teaching notes are provided after each lesson for all players, so players can learn the material in their own time.

FAQ

  • What’s taught at intermediate level? Generally one tune per class is covered, lots of focus on left hand accompaniment, chordal progress, finger work, technique & ornamentation. Tune is taught by ear & recording of lesson is sent after class. Types of tunes I teach at this level include my own compositions, clan-marches, jigs, hornpipes, planxties, basic reels.

  • What’s taught at advanced level? This is a faster paced lesson, with emphasis on more complex left hand accompaniment & arrangement of the tune. Types of tunes taught include my own compositions, reels, jigs, with strong emphasis on left hand accompaniment.

  • What if I miss a class?

  • A video replay of the lesson will be provided following each lesson for you to recap, allowing you to catch up also if you miss any live lessons. The replay will be available for 6 months
