Feis Shligigh- A Celebration Concert
Michael is teaching the concertina workshop & June is teaching the flute workshop at the festival on Sat 16th Feb. Workshops 10.30am -1pm and 2pm -3.30pm
Performed by Michael Rooney, The Macalla Orchestra & Ulster University Choir. The performance will coincide with the exhibition Coming Home: Art and the Great Hunger. This suite of music was commissioned by Imbolc Festival 2019.
Michael Rooney: “I'm delighted to bring the score of 'The Famine Suite' back to life again, twenty two years after it was written. It was my first suite of music and this time around it's been a labour of love orchestrating this suite. It will be my pleasure to work on it with some of the finest musicians in Ireland.”

The TG4 Gradam Ceoil Awards will be presented at the Cork Opera House on February 21st at 8pm, broadcasting live at 9.30pm. Tickets from 021-4270022. corkoperahouse.ie and gradam.ie. The Spirit of Sligo Gala concert celebrates the official launch of Sligo’s designation as European Volunteering Capital 2017 with a unique evening of music and performance sharing and celebrating the strength and range of creative collaboration in Sligo. The concert features Michael Rooney, Niamh Crowley, Kieran Quinn, John Joe Kelly, June McCormack, Sean Carroll, Tommie Gorman, Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta Orchestra, Sligo Gospel Choir and Sligo’s finest traditional and classical musicians. The Macalla Suite returns to Sligo for its final concert of 2016 on Friday 30th December, having performed for over 11,000 people over the past six months, following a sell-out Easter Tour.
The suite will be performed by The Macalla Orchestra which includes 50 of some of Ireland’s finest classical and traditional musicians. The orchestra just recorded a CD of the suite, which will be released in mid-December.
